Six Ways to Make the Most of an SVN Conference

Tip #1:  Surprise yourself.

At this conference, we invite you to experiment a little. If you usually speak up in a group, listen more. If you usually hold back, try speaking up more. If you usually lead with your head, try leading with your heart. And vice versa.

Tip #2:  Be intentional. Be authentic. Be yourself.

We encourage you to take some time to think about why you came here, and what you want to make happen. And then set intentions. The intentions can be what you hope to achieve at this conference, or in your life, or in your work, or all of the above. We also encourage you to share your intentions and your authentic self with people new to you at this conference.

Tip #3:  Relationships first. Business second.

We encourage SVN members to do business with each other. Supporting each other professionally is part of what this network is all about. But we ask you to make a genuine effort to get to know one another first, because SVN is about building real relationships. Often those relationships lead to business, but it’s important to find common ground first.

Tip #4:  Take care of yourself.

If you’re going to do good work, or care for a community, or care for the planet, you’ve got to care for yourself too. At this conference, please remember to take care of yourself and be good to yourself. And if you see someone here who could use a little care, I encourage you to reach out, share a kind word, and offer your support.

Tip #5:  It’s all about giving, and receiving.

SVN is a community of support and service. The people that gain the most from being a part of this community are those who are the most generous with their time, resources, and connections. Be of service first. It’s always amazing what flows from that. After the conference, please remember to follow-up with the people you said you’d help.

Tip #6:  Enjoy yourself. Go with the flow.

There is no right or wrong way to be at an SVN conference. And there is no one here that you need to impress. Just relax, be yourself, be present, and be open to what unfolds. Go with the flow: nothing is perfect in a room with real people at a live event.  Some things will fit your expectations, some will not. That’s the point. Go with the flow, and be ready to embrace and experience what happens. This year’s conference is being held in a beautiful setting so we encourage you to get out and explore the surroundings or take part in morning yoga, hikes, or pool and spa services. Enjoy yourself and the amazing people around you. Simply put, have fun.

There’s no dress code, but to help guide you, here are a couple suggestions:

Conference attire:
Casual

Gala attire:
Creative cocktail attire (but most definitely not black tie!)
